The owners of this Traditional Home, now empty nesters were ready to update

their Master Bedroom, let go of once loved borders, velvet swags, the dated ceiling fan

and a lot of “stuff,” while wanting to retain some loved artwork, a headboard made from

architectural salvage and a few accessories. They were dreaming of a serene, calm

atmosphere. We began with choosing “Linen” colored walls, window treatments,

bedding and upholstery to create a calm tone on tone atmosphere. However, the room

is good size, 21” x 14ʼ and has five windows so there is plenty of light; the idea of an

accent wall in a dark color to create interest and offset the architectural headboard was

born. The color “Black Fox” by Sherwin Williams was chosen and is quite unique

because it is brown-black with a hint of gray, so it covers a lot of ground. Though still

respecting the homeʼs traditional roots, the modern color scheme, tailored box pleat

valences (there are black out shades under the valences), soft washed linen bedding,

black and white artwork, drum shaped lamp shades, paired down accessories and yes,

just one flower arrangement of favorite soft pink roses next to the bed gave the owners

a very serene updated space, truly, “Tradition with a Twist.”
