Apple Office

My clients own a beautiful French Country Home in Springfield, MO. Empty nesters now, they are interested in updating their home with some modern touches without completely gutting it. They wanted to begin by changing what was a music room to an office. While using an existing desk and sofa, we decided to pursue new modern art work, a few accessories and re-upholstery. At an Art Gallery in St. Louis, we found “The Apple” by artist Daniel Byrne and knew immediately they belonged together! The red and white wallpaper would come down, and the walls painted a cream to match the neighboring entry hall and living room. The picture found a home on a large scale wall behind the desk and is visible the minute you enter the home. We removed a large scale floral fabric from a French side chair and covered it with chocolate brown Edelman Leather to complement the background of the painting; it was amazing to see the intricate carving on the chair come into focus against the simplicity of the leather. A cow hide rug and IKAT fabric by kravet completed the look. There are pops of red throughout the house including a deep red dining room across the hall so using color was a great way to unify the modern with the traditional scheme. Finding art work the clients loved was key; from the beginning when we saw the painting and in the end, it was all about “The Apple.”
