James River Retreat

Living Room

When this dynamic young family chose to make the Springfield region their home; they found a house they loved nestled in the trees on a bluff overlooking the James River with stunning, forever views. Both have a great love for nature and wanted to re-model the home to reflect their personalities and taste including: natural fibers, organic shapes and soft materials, ergonomic furniture, live plants, walnut, stone and rock crystals. Both loved an eclectic mix of modern, traditional and rustic elements, to create a classic look they could live with for years.

The wall of windows provided their connection to nature.  They wanted this room to function as a retreat to sit by the fire and read, listen to music and talk as well as entertain on a moments notice. We replaced the existing Tuscan gold and reds, with a more serene, nature inspired color palette of soft grays, browns and greens. We completely re-clad the existing red clay brick fireplace with a Ledge Stone that mimics much of the natural stone in the Ozarks; this stone became the inspiration for the rest of the home’s design.

They wanted a Library space to house their book collections. Lack of wall space for shelving created a design challenge that I satisfied by designing a solid walnut coffee table that had book shelves on all four sides.

When company shows up, the two walnut ottomans and two storage cubes under the table can be used as extra seating.

The lighting pendants of concentric circles signify the fluidity and energy of the life cycle. A wonderful retreat for daily life and entertaining!

Basement

The Basement/Recreation Room is a playground with something for everybody. The goal was to create an action packed Industrial, Rustic, Live Edge look with enough room to hold a Shuffleboard Table, Pool Table, Bar, TV viewing and Board game playing space. The owner has a passion for airplanes so the aviator chairs and coffee table fit the bill. The industrial lighting and construction of the floating bar shelves anchored by large Industrial screws and concrete appearing Ceasarstone countertops and stainless steel appliances completed the look. We finished the project with modern, playful, colorful artwork that screams fun!
